- Zurich's top players continue to contribute
- Genève outshot their opponents 27-18
- Zurich will advance to their first-ever CHL Final
ZSC Lions Zurich dashed Genève-Servette's hope of a repeat appearance in the Champions Hockey League Final as they handed the club their fifth loss of the 2024/25 campaign, winning their Semi-Finals series by an aggregate score of 9-4. The Swiss' top players showed up as Zurich scored twice in the second and one more time in the third to secure their place in the Final.
After 20 minutes, the score line remained the same between the two clubs as Zurich maintained their five-goal aggregate lead with neither finding twine in the opening stanza of the return leg.
Genève generated more opportunities and led in shots on goal 10-6, but Robin Zumbühl was excellent in the crease for the hosts.
Second-period action got underway with Vinzenz Rohrer pouncing on an errant pass just below Genève's blueline before powering his way through two defenders and firing the puck over the blocker of Robert Mayer to make it 7-1 on aggregate in favour of Zurich.
The CHL's leading scorer Sven Andrighetto increased his club's lead to seven when he scored on a 5-on-3 powerplay opportunity at 36:19. Denis Malgin passed it from down low to Dean Kukan who quickly sauced it to Andrighetto who sailed it into the back of the net from the near circle for his eighth of the campaign.
Genève finally got on the board when they responded with their own powerplay tally with less than a minute to go in the period as Vincent Praplan whacked home a loose puck that eluded the left pad of Zumbühl.
Zurich added to their lead again in the third when Santtu Kinnunen cashed in on a 2-on-1 that saw him put home a brilliant feed from Alessandro Segafredo four minutes into the period.
The visitors answered a minute later with Alessio Bertaggia's sixth of the season as he deflected the puck into the net after Tim Berni slid it towards the top of the crease. They would go on to notch their fourth goal on aggregate on the man-advantage when Josh Jooris directed a bouncing puck past Zurich's netminder at 53:46.
Genève attempted to use their newfound momentum to their advantage in the closing minutes, but Zurich's defence never waivered as they went on to secure their 11th win of the campaign.
