- Danny aus den Birken gets a shut out with miraculous 47 save performance
- Trevor Parkes scored two, one into an empty net
- HC Ambrì-Piotta hold their ground against last season's Finalists - despite what the scoreline suggests
"We knew what we would expect from this match. Especially their quick way of playing. It was important for us to keep cool especially in the early stage of the game. From the beginning of the second period we started to take over the game."Red Bull Munich forward Patrick Hager
Red Bull Munich continue where they left of last season and start their new CHL campaign with a solid win over rookies HC Ambrì-Piotta. Despite the result clearly in favour of the Red Bulls, it was actually the debutants who recorded more shots on goal and shots in total.
Ambrì were out to prove that they weren’t scared of last season’s finalists Munich and played aggressively trying to shoot and press as much as they could. Despite all of their effor, Derek Roy was able to overcome Ambrì goalie Daniel Manzato right at the very end of the 1st period and sent the visitors into the locker room with something to think about. After the break a different Munich side came out, and suddenly the tides changed. It was Munich who took the initiative and they were keen on adding another goal. Their long sought-after reward came 15 minutes into the second period with Trevor Parkes’s powerplay goal. The scoreline stayed 2-0 for the remainder of the match, but an empty net goal from Trevor Parkes (his second on the night) finalised the scoreline at 3-0 just 15 seconds before the final whistle.
The star of the game was Munich goalie Danny aus den Birken. As he has shown many times before, he was in astonishing form saving 47 shots and recording a shootout
"In the first period we had to survive three penalty kills, and Danny aus den Birken was fantastic. In the middle period we came out of the locker room stronger, and in the end we defended our lead well"Red Bull Munich Head Coach Don Jackson
