- Mountfield into first CHL Quarter-Finals
- Mannheim fall in the Round of 16 as they did two years ago
- The odd goal in three the difference maker over six periods
Mountfield HK will contest their first ever Champions Hockey League Quarter-Finals after beating Adler Mannheim 2-1 on aggregate after 120 minutes of hockey.
Marek Mazanec's point-blank save towards the end of the opening period kept the scores level through 20 minutes in at the SAP Arena, as both sides kept things tight. Mountfield, who led on aggregate thanks to a late winner in their home leg, did, however, break the deadlock 53 seconds before period two was over. A breakaway chance for Matěj Chalupa was converted courtesy of a nice back-handed wrist shot over the shoulder of Mannheim goalie Dennis Endras.
Down by two on aggregate and running out of time, Mannheim grabbed a lifeline with a goal at 49:13, Phil Hungerecker tipping in Samuel Soramies' shot to give the home sides 10 minutes to find a leveler.
A late penalty on Oskars Cibulskis gave Mannheim a full two minutes to try and find that aggregate equaliser, and with Endras pulled Head Coach Pavel Gross gabled with 6-on-4 to try and find a way to find that goal. It wasn't however their night - instead, it was Mountfield HK's, who had Mazanec to thank with 21 saves for getting them over the line.
