- TPS were unable to make it two wins in two games at home
- Malmö bounced back after shock loss to Yunost Minsk on Thursday night
- Christopher Nihlstorp saved 26 of 27 shots for Malmö
The Malmö Redhawks saw their unbeaten run come to an end on Thursday night in a shock loss to Yunost Minsk, while TPS Turku managed to pick up their first win of their Champions Hockey League campaign in their first home game against Red Bull Munich, really opening up Group B at the midway point of the group stage.
TPS welcomed the Redhawks to the Gatorade Arena to try and get revenge after the two sides met on game day one, in a game that ended very one-sided with an 8 - 4 Malmö victory.
It didn't take long for TPS to get the home crowd behind them, young sensation Kaapo Kakko stepped up to take a penalty shot early on and, despite being just 17-years-old, calmly fired his effort past Christopher Nihlstorp, to give the Finnish side a 1 - 0 advantage. But the lead didn't last too long, as later in the period, Malmö managed to get one of their own after a nice move from Martin Janolhs saw his back hand effort find the back of the net.
No score in the second period meant it was all to play for between the two sides with just 20 minutes of hockey remaining, and Malmö were the first to strike, capitalising on an early powerplay as Nichlas Hardt was out in front top deflect the puck past TPS netminder Rasmus Tirronen.
Despite their best efforts, TPS couldn't get one to level the game up, and that was all she wrote as Malmö edged out their Finnish rivals in a 2 - 1 contest, going back top of Group B.
