- 3-1 victory for Rögle on home ice
- Yannick Weber of Zurich tied the score on aggregate in the second period
- Ludvig Larsson and Dennis Everberg score on the powerplay to secure the win for Rögle
With just one goal separating the two sides, Rögle Ängelholm held their slim advantage over ZSC Lions Zurich in the return game of their Round of 16 tie, to move on to the Quarter-Finals
The hosts Rögle had their chances early, but Zurich held strong, killing three early penalties, including a short spell that saw them down to just three skaters midway through the period. With Rögle enjoying spells of powerplay time, they had the better chances in the opening 20 minutes, but Ludovic Waeber had a strong performance to ensure that both teams headed into the first break still tied on the night, and still only separated by one overall, with Rögle goalie Christoffer Rifalk holding strong at the end of the period as Zurich had a powerplay of their own.
It was more impressive goaltending to start the second period, until eventually Zurich tied the game. Or had they?
As Yannick Weber was sprung loose, he pulled the puck to his backhand, beating Rifalk, putting the puck through the five-hole, but his momentum carried him into the Rögle goalie, so after a lengthy review the officials called it a goal, overturning their on ice decision, and with just under half the game remaining, the aggregate score was tied at four.
Shortly after though, Rögle were back on top. Both teams ran into penalty trouble, but it was Rögle who carried a man advantage, and as Ryan McKiernan took a low shot from the point, a great deflection by Ludvig Larsson made it impossible for Waeber to stop in the Zurich net, especially with Marco Kasper screening him, so Rögle were back on top.
It was a bit more of a cagey affair in the final 20 minutes, with neither side willing to make a mistake that could cost them a chance at progressing, and eventually it was Rögle who would light the lamp again. On the powerplay, a shot by Adam Tambellini went wide, but Dennis Everberg was waiting on the other side as it bounced off the end boards, back out to Everberg, and his quick shot beat Waeber who was moving post-to-post to stop the secondary effort, but couldn't deny Rögle from taking a two goal advantage overall.
Zurich were running out of time to get back in the tie, and when Adam Edström sealed things with an empty net goal, Rögle would advance to the Quarter-Finals, while it signalled the end of the road in this years Champions Hockey League for Zurich.
