- Färjestad secured a one-goal aggregate lead
- Skellefteå outshot their opponents 27-15
- Victor Ejdsell: 2 goals, 14:57 TOI for Färjestad
The First Game between Skellefteå AIK and Färjestad Karlstad came to a close with the visitors narrowly squeezing out a one-goal aggregate advantage with a 4-3 final. Färjestad scored once in the first, twice in the second and one more in the third while Skellefteå netted one in the first and two more in the final frame.
A slashing penalty resulted in a penalty shot which resulted in a goal as Victor Ejdsell got Färjestad on the board six minutes in with a backhand forehand deke that beat Linus Söderström to open the scoring.
18-year-old Zeb Forsfjäll, however, found the equaliser for Skellefteå with a one-timer from just above the crease. Elias Salomonsson skated the puck behind the net before dishing it to Forsfjäll who put it past Maxime Lagacé for his first of the tournament.
Following the first 20 minutes of action, it was the home side leading in shots on goal with a 9-5 margin as the clubs headed into the second period.
Late in the middle frame, Ejdsell secured his second of the contest - this time on the backhand. An errant pass was picked off by the forward who glided through the slot before elevating the puck past the netminder to give his club a one-goal advantage with over five minutes to play.
The visitors would extend their lead courtesy of Joel Kellman's tuck at 38:20. A pretty passing play was capped off by Kellman who was left undetected at the side of the net with an easy tap-in to make it a 3-1 game.
Trailing by two to start the third, Skellefteå continued to pour shots on the opposing netminder but it was Färjestad taking advantage of their opportunities as they would go on to net their fourth of the night off the stick of Liam Öhgren who settled down a bouncing puck before wristing it low glove side.
Moments later, the hosts would go on their fourth man-advantage where Linus Lindström was able to close the goal-gap to two after generating a powerplay goal to add to his team-leading point total. Then Axel Sandin-Pellika made it a one-goal affair when he notched his third of the tournament at 54:00.
With time winding down, Skellefteå opted to keep their netminder in and skate five aside as they attempted to tie it, but Lagacé was able to withstand the hosts' pressure and help his team maintain their one-goal edge with a chance to close out their Quarter-Finals series on home ice next week.
