- Both teams qualified for the Playoffs ahead of the game
- Munich's Chris DeSousa scored while shorthanded
- Fourth three-point win of the season for Färjestad
Färjestad Karlstad ended the 2023/24 Champions Hockey League Regular Season with an important three-point win over rivals Red Bull Munich to move up the Regular Season Standings and into a better position for the knockout bracket.
Despite both teams entering this game with a sure place in the Top 16, it was all action from the get-go. Lucas Forsell opened the scoring just past the 11-minute mark with a sneaky shot from in front of the goalie off a rebound, before both teams tested each other out in the remainder of the first frame.
When the two teams returned from the locker rooms, it was Färjestad who would strike again as Linus Johansson caught a sloppy puck right in front of Munich goaltender Daniel Allavena and fired it in without hesitation.
The Swedes offered the visitors a rare powerplay at the midway point of the game, but Munich failed to utilise the extra attacker. They both switched roles at 36:28 when Markus Eisenschmid was called for hooking but Färjestad struggled to get the puck under control and a stray puck was picked up by an unmarked Chris DeSousa who fired it in shorthanded, eliminating the penalty against in the process, to make it a 2-1 game.
The score changed for a fourth time before the second period came to an end as Nicolas Kraemmer got just enough on an Andrew MacWilliam shot to make it a 2-2 game.
Any hope of a Munich comeback was thwarted by two third-period goals from the home team who skated away with +3 points for the fourth time this season when the buzzer sounded for the very last time. Meanwhile, it's going to be a long journey back for Munich who were not in usual clinical form this time around.
