- Per Åslund scored the game-winner, securing his second of the season
- Villach put up a much more definitive effort despite the loss
- Färjestad remain perfect in their Group
Despite a much more complete effort in their second meeting, Villach SV fell for a second time to Färjestad Karlstad as Per Åslund scored the game-winning goal and Dennis Hildeby made 20 saves to propel Färjestad Karlstad to a 2-1 win.
Björklund added to his two CHL tallies and Färjestad's 13 CHL markers eight minutes into the first when he wristed one over the glove of Jean-Philippe Lamoureux to break the ice.
Heading into the middle stanza, Villach surrendered a powerplay to the visitors twice in the opening minutes but their PK was superb, closing lanes and denying the Swedish any opportunity.
The home side had their best chance of the game midway through the second when Robert Sabolič was awarded a penalty shot after being tripped up on a potential 2-on-0 opportunity. Sabolič cruised into the zone and pulled the puck to his backhand but Hildeby stayed with him and knocked it away to keep his club up by one.
Färjestad's chances on the powerplay continued to be frustrated by the Austrians as third period action began.
Fortunately for the Swedes, their even strength numbers compensated for their lack of success on the man-advantage as they were able to land several shots on Lamoureux at 5-on-5.
Five minutes into the final period one of those shots found its way through as Åslund picked up his third goal of the season, floating one from the point to put the visitors up by two with time winding down.
Scoring continued with a buck and change left in the third as Villach found themselves on the scoreboard for the first time on the night thanks to Nicolas Mattinen who found the loose puck and put it home to make it 2-1.
Now down by one, Villach pulled Lamoureux in the closing seconds, but Färjestad were the ones stifling chances this time and the SHL champions closed out the match as they continued their CHL campaign unblemished.
