- Rapperswil outplayed feisty Slovan
- Slovan's Marcel Haščák scored twice
- Tyler Moy netted two for Rapperswil
Swiss side Rapperswil-Jona Lakers headed to Slovakia to take on Slovan Bratislava in their first CHL encounter.
The away team wasted no time in getting things going, with Sandro Forrer snatching the first one passed the net at the 3:25 minute mark. They wouldn’t hold onto the lead for very long though as Slovan's Marcel Haščák came in with the equaliser and Tomas Zigo and Michal Beno with the assist.
Slovan’s Daniel Gachulinec brought the game’s first penalty when he was called for hooking, giving Rapperswil the advantage they needed to snag the lead. Doing just that was Tyler Moy and Nicklas Jensen and Yannick-Lennart Albrecht with the assist. The first frame came to an end with Slovan trailing 2-1.
The middle frame came and went without much action beyond a tripping call on Yannick-Lennart Albrecht.
The final stanza was off to a quick start, with Fabian Maier getting one passed the net and expanding the Swiss' lead to 3-1. Following up on that momentum, Inaki Baragano swept the next one in for Rapperswil, affording them a solid 4-1 lead at the 46:53 mark.
Just as it looked bleak for Slovan, Daniil Fominykh closed a bit of the gap for the home team, much to the delight of the fans.
The Slovan celebration wouldn't last long, as the Swiss team retaliated by scoring their second powerplay goal of the night at the hands of Nicklas Jensen.
Yet, Slovan weren't about to toss their white flag, with Tomas Zigo taking it to 5-3 and Marcel Haščák closing the gap even further to 4-5.
With an empty net for Slovan, Rapperswil would have the last word, taking the final score to 6-4, despite an epic battle in the last stage of the closing period!
