Disenchanted with their first Game Day 1 loss, Skellefteå AIK came out fast, firing on all cylinders. Outshooting the visitors 6-2, the Swedes had good control of the first period, generating shots on Oceláři Třinec netminder Ondřej Kacetl early. Kacetl, in his first game of the season, looked comfortable scooping up pucks and was active in leaving his crease to play the puck. 

In a quick transition, Skellefteå netminder Gustaf Lindvall had to fend off a 2-on-1 by the Czech side who caught a break, but Martin Růžička's shot passed just wide of the net. Halfway through the period the hosts got their first powerplay of the game, but Třinec's penalty kill was flawless. With a minute remaining and both sides trading blows, it would end a scoreless period.

It was a ferocious start to the second stanza by Skellefteå who collected a handful of good opportunities against their rivals. A breakaway by Třinec forward Alan Lyszczarczyk was one of the best chances for the visitors, but his deke saw an awkward roll of the puck, and Lindvall's stacked pads were ready.

With both sides forechecking intensively, the puck traversed around the perimeter, with limited movement through the danger zones of the ice. Battles along the boards were clean and physical, with neither side yielding.

At 36:54 Třinec's Martin Marinčin took a minor penalty giving the hosts a vital man advantage. Třinec's penaltykill effectiveness was further cut down after Miloš Roman's stick found itself in two pieces. With Skellefteå in full control and hunting for open net, a wristshot collected by Kacetl finally gave the Czech side a stoppage of play and some well-needed fresh legs.

At 41:50 Skellefteå finally broke the deadlock thanks to Anton Olsson, who unleashed a bullet of a wristhot one stride along the blueline. The Swedes made it 2-0 at 44:03, this time it would be Rikard Hugg who cut into the high slot to net his first goal of the night. 

Třinec got their first powerplay of the night but couldn't convert. Shortly after a stroke of luck landed on the Czech side, when a net rush by the visitors saw a rebounding, mid-air puck bounce off the body of Martin Růžička and into the net cutting the deficit in half.

With the clock ticking down, and the Czechs desperately looking for open net, the goalie was pulled for a sixth skater. In spectacular fashion the guests equalised with 54 seconds left in the period, thanks to Miloš Roman, and the match was sent into overtime.

Skellefteå possessed the puck for most of the OT, but Trinec's Petr Vrána had a dangerously close chance on Lindvall. With nearly four minutes of extra time in play, a long pass reached the blade of Jonathan Jonsson. The breakaway saw Jonsson shoot and collect his own rebound securing Skellefteå's first win of the season, 2-1 in OT.
