- Both teams scored powerplay goals in the first
- Game marred by 53 penalty minutes over two periods
- Skellefteå netted three goals in the last period to take the win
Hosts HC Davos got off to the best possible start securing a powerplay goal just 13 seconds into the opening period. Forward Leon Bristedt's shot on Skellefteå AIK's netminder saw the puck trickle through the five-hole of Gustav Lindvall to make it 1-0 for the hosts.
Two penalties called on Davos turned the tables, giving the Swedish team the 1-1 equaliser. In 5-on-3 mode the Swedes found their lane, with Joakim Lindström hammering the puck past Davos netminder Sandro Aeschlimann.
Emotions intensified when Pär Lindholm was penalised for a slashing call and worsened with a second minor call. Luckily for the Swedes, the resulting 5-3 on for Davos was unproductive. The Swiss team had their own stroke of luck after Aeschlimann stonewalled the short-handed breakaway of Skellefteå's Oscar Möller.
A second skirmish would break out, resulting in a 4-on-4, plus the ejection of Skellefteå's Jonathan Pudas for fighting. Top scorer Rickard Hugg somehow got loose in the slot to secure his first goal of the evening and make it 2-1 for the visitors before the end of the period.
With the period intermission over and Davos resuming their 5-on-3 man-advantage, Matěj Stránský pulled the lever for the homeside, netting the all-important 2-2 equaliser. Eight powerplay minutes, and a penalty shot by Hugg gave Skellefteå vital chances to regain the lead, but Aeschlimann was rock solid between the pipes.
The third stanza would see the Swedes kill off another two minutes of penalty time, frustrating Davos. With 4:51 on the clock, Skellefteå would come through with the goods. Jonathan Jonsson was the man of the moment, netting the goal from the high slot, off a pass from Hugg to put the visitors up 3-2.
A poorly timed penalty from Chris Egli gave Skellefteå their last powerplay of the game, and they made it count. A shot from Andreas Wingerli, followed by an empty-netter by Hugg, was more than enough to secure a 5-2 win in favour of the Swedish side.
