- Shutout for Sandro Aeschlimann
- Davos advance to Playoffs, Třinec definitely out of contention
- Julian Schmutz - 1G + 1A
It was a game of tough defending and control as HC Davos welcomed Czech Extraliga champions Oceláři Třinec to Switzerland for Game Day 5. A confident and controlled performance from the Swiss propelled them into the final 16, but for Třinec it is game over for their hopes of advancing.
Davos wasted no time in getting the game underway and found the back of Marek Mazanec's net at 7:27 thanks to Claude-Curdin Paschoud's one-timer rocket that smashed through the traffic and sailed past the Czech goalie.
They doubled their lead two and a half minutes later, this time Enzo Corvi adding his eighth point of the season. Davos swamped the net and a fired puck jumped in front of Mazanec leaving him vulnerable from behind resulting in an easy tap-in from Corvi.
Davos added their third goal four minutes into the second period as Třinec looked out of their comfort zone all night. This time it was Julian Schmutz who tapped the puck into the away team net with relative ease after a rebound from teammate Michael Fora bounced off the backboards and straight onto his stick with a clear view of an open goal.
The Swiss giants added goal #4 at 30:26 and for Marek Mazanec it was game over. The four-time Czech Extraliga champions opted to switch him for Ondřej Kacetl who played the remainder of an otherwise uneventful and carefully managed game.
With 60 minutes of game time up, the final buzzer sounded to the tune of 4-0 as the team in blue and yellow celebrated their third CHL Playoffs qualification.
