Juho Lammikko (#83) of ZSC Lions Zurich, time 16:44, was involved in an incident deemed as an Illegal check to the head or neck (IIHF Rule 48). The video evidence has determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 2 – ‘Reckless’ – a deliberate and/or dangerous action with no concern for the result, with a conscious action to provoke, through intent and a willful purpose.
According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the CHL PSC, Juho Lammikko (#83) of ZSC, will receive supplementary discipline under Illegal check to the head or neck – IIHF Rule 48.
Wednesday night, Zurich forward #83 Juho Lammikko used an illegal action, deemed as an Illegal check to the head or neck against Skellefteå AIK forward #34 Tom Kühnhackl, in which he was assessed a Major Penalty and a Game Misconduct.
As the video shows, with Skellefteå on the breakout, an outlet pass occurred that was intended for Kühnhackl, in which Kühnhackl never did gain puck possession. Simultaneously, Lammikko is on the back check reading a defensive play which included the possibility of a body check. The body check involved physical, forceful contact, which made impact to the head area of Kühnhackl.
This is deemed an illegal check to the head or neck.
It is important to note, this is not a body check where contact to the head was unavoidable. Instead, Lammikko altered his skating path, adjusted to make contact on a player not in possession of the puck and had time to alter, minimize or make body to body contact. If Lammikko wants to make a check, he must do so without making substantial head contact and instead make body to body contact and have a regard for the puck.
The head contact did lead to an apparent injury.
The CHL Sport Disciplinary Board suspends Juho Lammikko (#83) of ZSC Lions, for 2 games, effective immediately while also fining him € 1,400. In addition, Juho Lammikko (#83) of ZSC Lions, will be considered a repeat offender in the event supplementary discipline is required within the CHL.
