As the pinnacle of the European club ice hockey season, the CHL Final will be played on 20 February 2024 at the home venue of one of the Finalists. As per the CHL Regulations, the determination between which of the two teams earns the right to play this ultimate game of the season at home is a CHL Board decision based on multiple factors such as capacity of the venue, technical and hospitality facilities, as well as TV related and logistical aspects and the accumulated record leading up to the Final (Regular Season + Playoffs games).
Ahead of the Semi-Finals, all four clubs remaining in the competition applied to host CHL Final 2024. The CHL Board has evaluated their applications carefully and decided that all Semi-Finalists and their venues are eligible to host the CHL Final – provided that the teams qualify for the ultimate all-or-nothing event.
Based on the CHL Board decision, the accumulated record leading up to the Final will determine the host. This means that the points teams earned during the Regular Season and the Playoffs will be summed up and the better-ranked Finalist will earn the hosting rights to the CHL Final 2024.
Here is how the CHL Semi-Finalists are currently ranked.
Please note that for games in the CHL Playoffs, 3 points are awarded for a win and 1 point for a tie after / at the conclusion of regulation time. Overtime and shootouts are part of the series and do not entitle an extra point.
If the two Finalists are tied on points, the following tie-breaking rules apply:
1. Better goal difference (GDF)
2. More goals scored (GF)
3. More away goals scored (AGF)
4. The higher position in the CHL Draw pot allocation
In either case, the CHL will officially confirm the host city of the 2024 CHL Final after the Semi-Final Return Games.
