With Game Days 1-4 behind us, join us for a look back at which three goaltenders dominated across the first part of the 2023/24 season!
Tyler Beskorowany
Among the six netminders who’ve suited up for all four contests, the Belfast Giants’ Tyler Beskorowany has collected some decent numbers despite only finding the win column once.
The Canadian backstop is second only to Tappara Tampere’s Christian Heljanko in save percentage with 90.99% and goals against at 2.52 and is tied with the 2022/23 CHL MVP in shutouts with one.
Beskorowany played his best game in Belfast’s last outing when he denied all 28 chances from HC Bolzano to secure the club’s first victory of the season.
Christian Heljanko
When compiling a list of the best goaltenders of Game Days 1-4, it's hard to miss Tappara Tampere's Christian Heljanko. The 2022/23 CHL MVP has been in net for all four of his team's games and has made over 100 saves with a 93.58% Save Percentage.
Heljanko has let in an average of 1.70 goals per game and picked up his first shutout of the season against the Belfast Giants on Game Day 2.
The Finnish netminder was instrumental in Tappara's 2-1 shootout win over Adler Mannheim where he made some huge saves in OT and the shootout to keep his side in the game - including this one which picked up Play of the Night!
David Rautio
Skellefteå AIK's David Rautio may not be top of many goaltender stats lists, but he's had an undeniable impact on the Swedish team's performances across the first four Game Days.
The Swedish netminder has only let four goals into his net in three games, recording a 92.16% Save Percentage. Rautio also picked up a shutout in Skellefteå's win over Red Bull Salzburg on Game Day 1.
But by far the most important performance came when the 38-year-old saved 23 shots on goal against reigning CHL Champions Tappara on Game Day 5 to allow his team to secure a much-needed three points.
Keep an eye on him in the following Game Days!
