With only one Group Stage Game Day left, the 2021/22 season of the Champions Hockey League is entering an important phase as in just two days' time, half of this season's line-up will be eliminated.
12 teams are still in contention for seven Playoffs places and the margins are extremely close. With some big games on the books for Game Day 6, the CHL Tie-Breaking rules will almost certainly come into effect.
Here's a reminder of the CHL Tie-Breaking Rules that are applied when two or more teams are tied on points when all Group Stage matches of a given group have been played.
CHL Tie-breaking Rules
- Head-to-Head results from mutual home & away games are the first tie-breaker if two teams have the same number of points, followed by goal difference and then more goals scored.
- In the event two teams are still tied, the team that scored the higher number of goals in one of their mutual games gets the advantage.
- Should three or more teams be tied on points, then a sub-group amongst the tied teams is created and the same Tie-breaking Rules are applied.
The Tie-breaking Rules are only applied once all Group Stage games of a given group have been played. Until then, the tied teams on points are ranked in the Group Stage standings according to the following: lower number of games played, goal difference, goals scored and higher position in the previous season's ranking.

However, should for any Covid-19-related reason not all games in a group be played, points percentage will be applied as the first tie-breaking criteria followed by the regular Tie-breaking Rules.
