Patrick Ulriksen (#3) of Stavanger Oilers, time 04:12, was involved in an incident deemed as Illegal Check to the Head (IIHF Rule 48). The video evidence has determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline.
According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the CHL PSC, Patrick Ulriksen (#3) of Stavanger Oilers, will receive supplementary discipline under Illegal Check to the Head - IIHF Rule 48.
Thursday night, Stavanger player #3 Patrick Ulriksen used an illegal action, deemed as illegal check against Dynamo Pardubice player #69 Lukas Radil, in which he was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct.
As the video shows, with Dynamo Pardubice on the breakout, an outlet pass occurred that was intended for Radil in open ice. Simultaneously, Ulriksen is coming across ice to make a defensive play, which involved body contact on Radil, who just received the outlet pass. The body check involved physical, forceful contact, which made an impact with the head area of Radil.
This is deemed an illegal check.
It is important to note, two elements of an Illegal Check are met on this hit. First, the head is the main point of contact as Ulriksen shoulder contacts the head area of Radil and it is the head that absorbs much of the force of the check. Second, the head contact on this play is deemed avoidable. Ulriksen chose an angle of approach that cuts across the front of Radil’s body, making the head a primary point of contact.
If Ulriksen wants to deliver this hit, he must stay low and choose an angle that leads to a full body check with the opponent’s shoulder or chest, rather than the head.
The CHL Sports Board Patrick Ulriksen (#3) of Stavanger Oilers for 1 game, effective immediately and issues a fine of €700. In addition, Patrick Ulriksen (#3) of Stavanger Oilers, will be considered a repeat offender in the event supplementary discipline is required within the CHL.
