We spoke to representatives of our three SHL participants from Sweden following the CHL Draw in Prague, Czechia, to find out what their goals were for the upcoming season, what they thought about their six Regular Season opponents and who they were most looking forward to playing.
"In an organisation like ours, you always play for the win."Emil Rasmussen, Växjö Lakers
Håkan Billing of Skellefteå AIK was first to speak and revealed that the reigning Swedish champions and last season's CHL Finalists "always play for gold", adding: "We made the Final last year so we're in it to win."
Färjestad Karlstad's Rickard Wallin was brief in his summary: "First of all, we want to make the Playoffs. We made the Quarter-Finals last season so our goal is to go one step further."
Emil Rasmussen of the Växjö Lakers had a similar view as Billing: "In an organisation like ours, you always play for the win so our goal is simple - to win."
What did the SHL representatives think of their draw?
"I believe we've only met one of the teams," were Billing's thoughts, "so it's going to be really interesting to meet so many new teams!"
Wallin sees many of the teams as a challenge: "The two Finnish teams will be tough, but we've also got a Norwegian team, a Hungarian team and an Austrian team, which are all teams we don't know too much about!"
Rasmussen thought all six of Växjö's opponents for the 2024/25 Regular Season "performed really well last season" and that they are going to be some good games.
And finally, which clubs stood out most to the representatives?
Billing picked Skellefteå's game against the Lahti Pelicans as his choice: "It's always fun to face the Finns!"
Färjestad's Wallin also kept his choice close to home by picking Storhamar Hamar as his favourite of the six opponents. "I hope fans from both sides will really enjoy this," he said.
And Växjö's Rasmussen? "We're looking forward to everybody," he replied, "it's going to be fun to see different hockey cultures, experience different arenas and welcome them to our home in front of our home fans as well."
