The race to qualify for the milestone 10th season of Europe's biggest club ice hockey competition has had a rollercoaster two weeks with six new qualifiers coming since our last update, meaning only three places remain on our 24-strong line-up for the 2024/25 season!
Two of those places could be filled already this week - here's a full overview!
Sweden
The battle for the SHL championship is in full swing with 2021/22 CHL Champions Rögle Ängelholm waiting to find out who they'll face in the finals. Who could that be you ask? After six games of their semi-finals series, four-time European Club Champions Frölunda Gothenburg are tied 3:3 with last season's Finalists Skellefteå AIK with an all-deciding Game 7 set for Thursday 18 April.
The battle for CHL qualification is wide open as the league's third and final place will go to the league champions. If Frölunda beat Skellefteå and then Rögle in the finals - they're through. If Skellefteå beat Frölunda and then Rögle in the finals - they're through. And if Rögle beat either - they're through. An exciting edge to an already interesting season in Sweden's top tier!
Denmark
Denmark's Metal Ligaen has already seen three games played in the finals between three-time CHL participants SønderjyskE Vojens and two-time CHL participants Esbjerg Energy. SønderjyskE are currently 2-1 up and if they win the next two ties they could be confirmed on the 2024/25 line-up as early as this Sunday!
Norway
The battle for the Norwegian championship is also up and running and also features two teams we've seen in the CHL in the past - be it a good few seasons now. Storhamar Hamar, who last played in the CHL in 2018/19 when they made it out of the Group Stage, took an early lead against 2014/15 CHL participants Vålerenga Oslo on Monday.
A quick look at the schedule reveals Storhamar could seal the deal on Sunday if they win the next three ties, otherwise, we'll most likely see a decision next week.
