The Champions Hockey League Board has confirmed the Challenger League places for the upcoming 2023/24 CHL season.
The champions of the following national leagues will be invited to compete in Europe’s elite club ice hockey competition:
- Denmark
- France
- Norway
- Slovakia
- United Kingdom*
The decision has been made by taking several criteria such as sportive competitiveness in all CHL seasons played so far, management structure, infrastructure and attendance figures into careful consideration.
The Challenger League places will be reviewed and allocated by the CHL Board for every CHL season.
The 2023/24 CHL season will be played with 24 teams and a new playing format. In this new structure, one place is reserved for the reigning CHL Champions (Tappara Tampere), 18 places are allocated to the Shareholder Leagues and five to the Challenger Leagues.
*Based on tradition, national champions in the EIHL are crowned after the Regular Season, not in the Playoffs
