Starting us off are GKS Tychy, who became the first ever Polish team to win a match in the Champions Hockey League back in the 2018/19 season when they beat Group rivals HC Bolzano 5:3 in a very intense match.
#MyCHLMoment - Alex Szczechura, GKS Tychy
“I remember the fans and the entire city were excited before the game. We were playing in Tychy that night and the atmosphere in the arena was electric starting from the moment the puck dropped.”
The match against Bolzano was their fifth in their debut season in the CHL. After four defeats, Tychy were determined to fight to the very end and earn a win.
“It was a close game and we were able to score some pretty nice goals to seal the victory.”
Tychy opened the scoring on the night, but Bolzano retaliated and after the first two periods the score was locked at 3:3. But from there on it was Tychy’s game – Michael Cichy scored 7 minutes before the final buzzer to give the home team the lead and Bartłomiej Jeziorski’s empty net goal was just the icing on the cake as GKS Tychy secured their first ever CHL win and earned their first points in the league.
“This game meant a lot to Polish hockey as it was the first time a team from Poland won a game in the CHL. To be part of such a big victory for GKS Tychy is something I will always remember. This is my favourite Champions Hockey League memory.”
