Czech netminder Alexander Salák has enjoyed a well-travelled career across North America and Europe but it’s in the CHL where he’s made his mark this season, in the colours of Sparta Prague.
Salák has backstopped Sparta to victory in five of his six starts this season in a campaign that saw them reach the Quarter-Finals of this season’s competition.
It was during this run, that the 34-year-old was able to establish an enviable record amongst the best netminders in the CHL, earning him his LGT MVP nomination. Salák’s goals against average of 1.51 and his save percentage of 94.64 ranks highest of all netminders to have played a minimum of six games in the CHL this season. Salák also ranks amongst the busiest netminders having made 159 saves this season, averaging 27 saves per game.
Salák’s standout performance of the campaign came during Sparta’s memorable shootout win over TPS Turku in the Group Stage back in August, where after turning away 42 of 44 shots he faced, Salák then went on to save all five of Turku's shots in the shootout to earn his side a precious win.
