"I'm proud of the boys, we gave it everything we had," said Mountfield HK's Marek Mazanec after losing the 2020 CHL Final 1-3 to the Frölunda Indians. The goaltender was one of the club’s key players heading into the Final, letting only three goals into his net over the course of the past six games, but come the Final, Mazanec conceded the same amount in under three minutes!
Yet everything started differently, as it was Mountfield who drew first blood thanks to Petr Koukal’s opening goal seven minutes in. Teammates on the ice and fans in the stands were ecstatic. The atmosphere in the packed ČPP Arena was crazy. “It was,” said a smiling Mazanec, “but I think we just made them mad. Then they switched up the gears and played better than before.”
“I can say without shame that they were better than us – I must congratulate the winner and wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season” said the 28-year-old Czech native congratulating Frölunda on their fourth CHL title.
“It was a great game, it’s a great success for the club to even make it to the Final“ finished Mazanec „ I’m not disappointed at all”.
