As the Round of 16 begins, Adler Mannheim of Germany will host reigning Champions Frölunda Gothenburg from Sweden as the two sides look to begin their respective journeys to the Final.
For Mannheim, who host the first leg of the clash between the two sides, they’ve already matched the furthest they’ve ever ventured in the Champions Hockey League, having previously made it to the Round of 16 on two occasions.
It’s a tough route to advance further as they take on the CHL’s most successful side, four-time Champions Frölunda.
It will be the first time that the two sides have met in the CHL, but the two sides, who have big reputations in their respective countries as well as in the CHL, will be more than prepared for the challenge that they face ahead.
Mannheim qualified for the Round of 16 after finishing second in Group C, while Frölunda edged out ZSC Lions Zurich in Group B to finish in top spot to set up this meeting.
Not much separates the two sides statistically through the Group Stage, both scored 21-times, while Frölunda conceded 14 times, just one more than Mannheim’s 13. Each team has a powerplay operating around the 29% mark as well, so the two sides should be evenly matched for what could turn into a very exciting contest between the two sides that currently occupy top spot in the respective leagues.
