Last year’s finalist Red Bull Munich are through to the next round of the 2019/20 Champions Hockey League, booking their place in the Quarter-Finals after a 9-2 aggregate win over Yunost Minsk.
Munich will now face Djurgården Stockholm in the next round, as they look to continue their journey towards a second straight CHL Final.
In the second leg, where Munich skated to a 6-0 victory, 17-year-old forward John-Jason Peterka got on the scoresheet with a goal or the first time in his young CHL career, while also adding his second assist of the campaign as well, assisting on the third goal of the night, scored by Christopher Bourque.
“We played two very tough games against Minsk. In the first game we had some problems with the hard style of play they have. But today we were well prepared. We were ready for them,” Peterka said following the second leg. "I don’t think the game was as one-sided as it looked like. Yes, the result is maybe a little high, but in the first thirty minutes, anything was possible."
"Minsk had a lot of chances to score the first goal and tie the series. But we were lucky that we scored first in the second period and that goal maybe breaks the game and the series."
“It’s perfect to score a goal in front of your own fans!"John-Jason Peterka speaks after his first ever CHL goal
"But I have to say, that my teammates had a big part to play before the goal. I got a perfect pass - and it’s not very difficult to score a goal, when the net is half-open” he added.
With the Quarter-Final matchups coming up against Djurgården as both teams look to secure their place in the final four, Peterka and his Munich teammates are aware of the test ahead of them.
“In the DEL there are very good and strong teams. But you can't compare the DEL and the CHL. In the CHL you can compete with the best teams in Europe. The games are faster - especially after the Group Stage and in the Playoffs. The games are much harder, as we learned in the two games against Minsk.”
