The Champions Hockey League Board has reviewed the three teams taking part in the IIHF Continental Cup Final and considers two of them eligible to qualify for next season’s Champions Hockey League.
The CHL Board has discussed the eligibility of IIHF Continental Cup Finalists to qualify for the 2022/23 Champions Hockey League season and has come to the conclusion that the Aalborg Pirates (DEN) and Comarch Cracovia (POL) meet the CHL’s qualification criteria. Both have participated in Europe’s most prestigious club competition before (Aalborg in 2018/19, Cracovia in 2016/17 and 2017/18).
Regarding the third team, the CHL Board cannot accept the IIHF Continental Cup Finalist Saryarka Karaganda (KAZ) as CHL qualifiers for the reason of travel logistics to Kazakhstan being too extensive for other participating teams in the CHL.
If Saryarka Karaganda win the tournament, the better ranked team of Aalborg and Cracovia will be awarded the qualifying place for the 2022/23 Champions Hockey League season.
The IIHF Continental Cup representative is an additional CHL place allocated to either the national league of Denmark or Poland. Should Aalborg or Cracovia – whoever earns the place in the upcoming IIHF Continental Cup Final, also become national champions this season, the league’s second qualification place will be allocated to the regular season winners of Denmark/Poland.
The IIHF Continental Cup Final will be played between 4-6 March 2022 in Aalborg (DEN). For more information about the tournament click here.
