Ahead of the start of the upcoming Champions Hockey League season, we asked the Head Coaches of Färjestad Karlstad's six Regular Season opponents what their thoughts are on the Swedish team - here's what they had to say!
EHC Biel-Bienne Head Coach Petri Matikainen: “This traditional club was founded in 1932 and is one of the most famous clubs in Swedish hockey. They have a great programme and a big winning culture, last winning the SHL in 2021/22. Our Finnish defenceman Ville Pokka played for them last season, so it is a familiar place and team for him. The SHL is a very highly-ranked league in Europe. They play very fast and competitive hockey. It will be a very tough game for us in their nice arena!”
Red Bull Munich Head Coach Toni Söderholm: “Färjestad Karlstad have played a major role in their national league in recent years. They play at a high tempo and have very technically skilled players on their team.”
Stavanger Oilers Head Coach Anders Gjøse: “A popular and well-known team for our Norwegian hockey fans. Inspiring to play them at home. Possessive style of play with a lot of skill.”
ERC Ingolstadt Head Coach Mark French: “Färjestad will be a big challenge for us in our first home game of the season. The Swedish club have a rich tradition, having won the SHL as recently as 2022. They finished the 2023 regular season third and will challenge us on every level.”
Ilves Tampere Head Coach Antti Pennanen: “A lot of high-quality players who like to play active hockey. A well-coached and managed team. A demanding opponent for everyone.”
