The Champions Hockey League will complete its 2021/22 line-up with Ukrainian Champions HC Donbass Donetsk. The team just recently won their eighth national championship by defeating Sokil Kiev 4:0 in the final series.
The CHL Board has decided to allocate a Wild Card to HC Donbass Donetsk as it was always the intention to maintain an open competition of recognised European ice hockey teams.
HC Donbass Donetsk had won the 2013 IIHF Continental Cup and was playing in the KHL in 2012/13 and 2013/14. Donetsk is located in East Ukraine, but the club will host its CHL games in the countries’ capital Kiev.
