Players and coaches from Mountfield HK and the Frölunda Indians got preparations for the 2020 CHL Final underway on Monday evening with the traditional pre-Final Press Conference.
“First of all you need luck, and we were a little bit lucky at the end of some games," began Indians' Head Coach Roger Rönnberg when asked about his team's ride to this season's Final. "On the other hand, we have great experience in this team and tremendous character in the core group of players who have been in this situation before. We’ve played a lot of these decisive games before and this experience is vital for us.”
Just like his coach, Joel Lundqvist is also in his fifth CHL Final. “This is why I play hockey, to play games like this and to win titles," said the Indians' captain. "I’m really excited about tomorrow – it’s a big game for me and our organisation. Of course it was a great memory playing and winning at home, but it’s given us a lot of energy to have the same again this year here on the road.”
For Mountfield HK it's the first time they find themselves in this showcase event. “As Roger said, sometimes you need a bit of luck to win important games. Our defensive performance has been part of our success and we’ve given up very few goals which is pleasing," said their Head Coach Vladimír Růžička. "This isn’t a game you play every day, and we promise to do everything possible to try and win at home here in the Czech Republic.”
Captain Radek Smoleňák is also delighted to be in this Final game. “It sounds incredible to be in the Final but you know what they say – if you don’t win the trophy, no-one cares who finishes as runners-up. We know we’re the second Czech team to make the final but we want to be the first to win the trophy,” he concluded.
