The Belfast Giants were awarded the CHL Marketing Award at the 2019/20 Champions Hockey League Final one week ago in Hradec Králové.
A year after the Polish participant GKS Tychy won the first-ever CHL Marketing Award, Belfast topped the previous winners and came in first place. The prestigious award honors the most creative and active club promoting the CHL. Together with the implemented activities and promotions, the clubs’ CHL marketing campaigns were evaluated by a jury consisting of six members (CHL Office, Infront Sports & Media AG, eSports, Two Circles, LGT Bank and Professor Jon Andrea Schocher).
Belfast showed their engagement and commitment from the very start of their first CHL season and already hinted at the CHL club workshops in May that they wanted to take this off-ice competition very seriously and hand in a fantastic application. They didn’t disappoint with very smart campaigns, some of which involving their players speaking directly to their fans through social or even face-to-face at events.
GKS Tychy followed-up their CHL Marketing Award win from last season with a great application and was viewed as second-best by the jury, while KAC Klagenfurt, a CHL participant from the EBEL in Austria came in third place. As the runners-up, GKS Tychy will collect € 6,000 and the third-placed KAC Klagenfurt € 4,000.
Mark Brooks, Ann Graham and Rachael Clydesdale from the Odyssey Trust – owners of the Belfast Giants accepted the award at the CHL Final in Hradec Králové and were a very proud group:
“We are honored to become the second winners of the Champions Hockey League Marketing Award,” said Mark Brooks. “We loved our inaugural season in the CHL and the Teal Army really got behind the team in their numbers to help us become the first ever to win all three CHL prizes – the Marketing Award as well as both Fan Challenge Awards. We look forward to the Giants qualifying for the CHL again so that we can defend our titles!”
In the first intermission of the CHL Final, Champions Hockey League CEO Martin Baumann honored the winners and handed over the award and cheque for € 10,000.
