Martin Baumann has decided to give release of his job as CEO of the Champions Hockey League. In mutual agreement, Baumann will remain within the organisation for several more months to facilitate a smooth transition to a new CEO.
This joint decision reflects the shared vision of both, Baumann and the Board, for the CHL's future, emphasizing the need for fresh leadership to drive the organisation forward. Despite his successful duration of employment spanning a decade and culminating in the exciting 2023/2024 season, including a spectacular Final in Geneva, Baumann believes that the CHL has reached a pinnacle moment where new leadership is necessary to oversee its continued growth and expansion.
Additionally, Baumann is eager to pursue new challenges and opportunities beyond his current role. After dedicating himself to the CHL for a decade, he sees this transition as an opportunity for personal and professional growth, as well as a chance to contribute to other endeavors.
The decision to step down comes amidst the ongoing realignment project initiated by the extraordinary CHL General Assembly on 4 March 2024. This project aims to strategically position the CHL for future success and will be further discussed and decided upon at the upcoming ordinary General Assembly in June 2024. Baumann's departure from the CEO role is seen as a proactive step to ensure that this realignment project can be effectively implemented at an operational level. The process to find a new CEO has already started.
CHL President Jörgen Lindgren: “As Martin has chosen to leave the CHL and embark on a new journey beyond our organisation, I wish to express heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the CHL Board and all our shareholders for his unwavering commitment and tireless efforts in advancing the Champions Hockey League to its current position of success.
