Saturday night in Rouen, Rouen Dragons defenceman Sacha Guimond (#44) was assessed a major penalty plus game misconduct for slashing Lahti Pelicans forward Ryan Lasch (#19).
According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the CHL PSC, Sacha Guimond (#44) of Rouen Dragons, will receive supplementary discipline under slashing - IIHF Rule 61.
As the video shows, late in the 1st period, Lasch is in possession of the puck in the attacking zone, skates to gain open ice. Guimond trails Lasch in pursuit to make a defensive play through the use of his stick. This is slashing.
It is important to note that stick fouls on a player in possession of the puck are common and usually sufficiently penalized by the on-ice officials. In this case, it is the location of the slash directly on the hand with sufficient enough force to cause an apparent injury.
The CHL Sports Board suspends Sacha Guimond (#44) of Rouen Dragons for 1 game, effective immediately and issues a fine of €700. In addition, Sacha Guimond (#44) of Rouen Dragons, will be considered a repeat offender in the event supplementary discipline is required within the CHL.
