Vålerenga Oslo is an Oslo-based hockey team founded in 1913, and a part of Vålerenga IF, which is a multi-sport club. The home arena of the team is the former Olympic arena which was built for the 1952 Oslo Winter Olympics. Since then, the arena's facilities have been upgraded, but the club is working on a project to build a new arena. Vålerenga is the winningest hockey team in Norwegian history with 26 Norwegian cup titles and 29 league championships since 1960. The head coach is the well-known Espen Knutsen, who won multiple league championships playing with Djurgarden of the SHL and has also played with the Anaheim Ducks and Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL. Significant players that have dressed in a Vålerenga uniform include: NHL players F Scott Hartnell (Philadelphia Flyers) and G Chris Mason, from the SHL – G Bjorn Bjurling and even Peter Forsberg and Markus Naslund played for Vålerenga during an exhibition game.
