TPS Turku, or TPS as they are more commonly known in Finland, were founded in 1922, and are one of the most successful sports clubs in Finland. For decades, these three magical letters and the black and white club colours have symbolized football and hockey at top levels in Finland.
TPS have won the Finnish hockey championship 11 times since 1956 and have been the most successful hockey team since the founding of the SM-Liiga in 1975. TPS have always been known for their excellent junior program, with names like Saku Koivu, Mikko Koivu, Miikka Kiprusoff, Marko Kiprusoff, Antero Niittymäki, Tomi Kallio, Aki Berg, and Hannu Virta reflecting their success.
They featured in the inaugural 2014/15 Champions Hockey League season finishing in the Round of 16. The following season they made the Quarter-Finals and in 2016/17 they were knocked out in the Round of 32 stage.
TPS Turku missed out on the Playoffs altogether in 2017/18, finishing behind the Nottingham Panthers & SC Bern in a very competitive group and also in 2018/19, when they finished behind finalists to be Red Bull Munich in the group stage.
In 2021/22 they failed to qualify for the Playoffs for a third time in a row but the Fins will already get their next shot at making it past the group stage in 2022/23.
