Slovan Bratislava are the most successful Slovak Extraliga team in history. They are based in the nation’s capital and largest city, Bratislava, and play out of the recently reconstructed Ondřej Nepela Arena which has a capacity of over 10,000 spectators.
The club was founded in 1919 as part of the Slovan Bratislava football club and started playing ice hockey as early as 1924. For many years they were the only Slovak club competing in Czechoslovakia’s top division and won their first and only Czechoslovakian title in the 1978/79 season.
Slovan won eight titles between 1994 and 2012 in the Slovak Extraliga era, making them the most successful club in the league’s history. Between 2012 and 2019 they competed in the Russian-based KHL.
In their first season back in the Slovak Extraliga in 2019/20 they finished second in the regular season. In 2020/21 they made it all the way to the playoff semi-finals and were awarded a Wild Card for the 2021/22 CHL season. In their first ever campaign in the Champions Hockey Legue the Slovaks failed to earn a single point.
Slovan qualified for their second CHL season by winning the Slovak Extraliga for the first time since their return to the league and for a ninth time in total in 2022.
