Red Bull Munich, formerly known as EHC Munich, were founded in Munich on 19 January 1998. Just 12 years after they were founded, they were promoted from the Bezirksliga to Germany's top league.
Winning the second tier of ice hockey in Germany saw the club promoted to the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). In their first season they finished in eighth place and qualified for the first round of the playoffs.
This made Munich the first promoted team in the history of the DEL to have qualified for the playoffs in their premier season. Red Bull became the sole owner of the club in May 2013, saving the club from a financial crisis.
Red Bull Munich have had big success in Germany in recent years, winning three DEL championships in a row between 2015 and 2018 and have quickly become one of the biggest and most recognisable names of German ice hockey.
In the Champions Hockey League, Munich have participated in seven seasons which makes them the most experienced German club in the pan-European competition. Their most successful season to date was in 2018/19, when they made it all the way to the Final, where they lost 3-1 to Frölunda Gothenburg.
