Leksands IF were founded in 1919 and first started playing ice hockey in 1938. They spent 51 seasons in Sweden’s top division between 1951 and 2001, winning the championship four times between 1969 and 1975.
They have won the SHL regular season three times – in 1980, 1994 and 1997, but never won the SHL championship.
In 2001, they were relegated to the second tier, Allsvenskan, and have continuously dipped up and down between the two tiers since. They most recently returned to the SHL in 2019.
Leksand, the team's hometown, has approximately 6,000 inhabitants and lies in the heart of Sweden, about 3,5 hours away from the country's capital Stockholm.
They are the region’s biggest sports team and a popular team in Sweden that attract large crowds for every home game.
They will make their Champions Hockey League debut in 2021/22.
