Ice hockey in Wolfsburg gained popularity in the 1960s and Grizzlys Wolfsburg have been a permanent member of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) since 2007.

In their young history, the organisation has made the league finals four times, losing twice each to DEL record champions Eisbären Berlin and Bavarian side Red Bull Munich. They also won the German Cup in 2009. In addition to that, the Grizzlys participated in the Spengler Cup in 2011, reaching the semi-finals.

The Grizzlys play their home games in Eis Arena Wolfsburg, which has a total capacity of 4,503. The club colours are orange and black.

They have participated in the CHL twice before and are qualified for a third time for 2022/23.
