After two successive Polish Final heartbreaks, GKS Tychy finally got their hands back on the Championship trophy for the first time since 2015 with a 2018 series win over Katowice. They backed that up in 2019 be retaining their title, thanks to a 4-2 series win against Krakow to also secure their place back in the CHL, and topped the Regular Season in 2020.
The team were founded in 1971, and are three-time Polish Champions with titles in 2005, 2015, and 2018. The team also boast eight Polish Cup titles, and have never been beaten in a Cup Final. In 2016 the team won a bronze medal in the Continental Cup, becoming the first side from their country to achieve a placing in that competition. NHLers Krzysztof Oliwa and Mariusz Czerkawski are both former Tychy alumni.
GKS made history is the 2018/19 season by becoming the first-ever Polish team to not only register a point in the Champions Hockey League, but also win a game with their home victory over Bolzano. That win on Game Day 5 came after the Poles had also run IFK Helsinki close in their home opener, and made quite an impression with their fans both home and away.
