Düsseldorfer EG was founded in 1935. The rink at Brehmstrasse was the third one in Germany and the eighth in all of Europe at the time it was built. From the beginning, DEG put emphasis on their youth teams, with the first players all coming from the Figure Skating section of the club. After World War II, the ice rink at Brehmstrasse was destroyed, so the club had to train in Krefeld. It was not until 1965 when DEG once again had a home rink of their own. Since then, they have increased their fanbase significantly. They won their first championship in 1967, but the golden age of Dusseldorf hockey began in the '90s, they won five titles (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996). The Dusseldorf Metro Stars, as they were known from 2002 to 2012, moved from Brehmstrasse to their current home, the ISS Dome, in 2006. In 2015, Dusseldorf hosted the 2nd DEL Winter Game in front of 52,000 spectators. Famous players from the club's history include current head coach Christoph Kreutzer, Daniel Kreutzer, Chris Valentine and Peter John Lee.
